Birkie Trail Run Recap and Nominations for Board Members

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to check out the Telemark Biathlon Club booth along with the Ariens Nordic Center team this past Saturday at the Birkie Trail Run. It was a beautiful day, and it was great to hear all the excitement around things happening at Telemark, including biathlon.

We had the full range of people stopping by: little ones having a blast with the laser rifles, serious athletes in their prime, weekend warriors, and retirees who are putting the rest of us to shame! People from all over the midwest wanted to learn more about biathlon and the opportunities to explore the sport here at Telemark or closer to home.

The Telemark Biathlon Club needs to take some important next steps, and we’d like to do so quickly so we can move forward with activities and plans for the year.

We are seeking people interested in being on the board of the club. If you want to be an important part of the founding of the club, we want to hear from you! Forming the board allows us to establish bylaws, get a bank account, and formally create the club.

We will be holding open nominations starting Now through October 14th. Nominations will be reviewed, and election (if needed) of the initial board members will take place October 15th through October 21st.

Responsibilities (in addition to the specific task of your role) would include participation in quarterly meetings and various assigned/volunteered tasks. We anticipate monthly meetings for the first few months. These can be attended in person or via video conference.

Positions needing to be filled are as follows

– President (2 year Term)

– Vice President

– Secretary

– Treasurer

– up to 5 open board positions (with potential areas of emphasis in youth development, social media/tech, volunteer coordination, Birkie/community relations, and coaching… you are not committing to being in charge of those things, just with an interest in helping in that area)

Come join a really passionate group fo people who are energetic about bringing biathlon to the northwoods!

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. If the time isn’t right for you at the moment to committ, that’s ok! We’ll have lots of opportunities for smaller contributions.

If you would like to nominate yourself to a specific position, or a general board member, please send an email to info@telemarkbiathlon.org by October 14th. You don’t have to be an experienced biathlete or have an exceptional resume. We’re just looking for the right people with passion and interest in being part of the founding of this club. If you think, “Well, there’s probably someone out there who could do it better than me…” that’s true, but let me tell you – you’re the person we want! Plus, how often do you get the chance to be in on the ground level of something like this associated with the Birkie!
